Here are the details in a press release from Celestial Pictures.
Celestial Pictures will initiate film projects on the remakes of the Shaw Brothers’ iconic classics, FIVE DEADLY VENOMS and FLYING GUILLOTINE. These will be the first and long-awaited Chinese language remakes of the legendary Shaw Brothers films. Celestial Pictures will also distribute these two films worldwide.
Action-thriller director Kirk Wong (THE BIG HIT, CRIME STORY) will helm as director and write the screenplay of FIVE DEADLY VENOMS, the movie that inspired Quentin Tarantino’s KILL BILL VOL.1 and VOL.2. FIVE DEADLY VENOMS sees the return of the poison clan that took martial-arts fans by storm. In this remake, set in contemporary times, the beautiful but lethal Spider Girl has joined the all-male clan replacing one of the original male characters.
Teddy Chen (Jackie Chan’s ACCIDENTAL SPY) will direct FLYING GUILLOTINE with Su Chao-Pin (SILK, DOUBLE VISION) working on the screenplay. Oscar winner Emi Wada (Akira Kurosawa’s RAN, Zhang Yimou’s HERO) is designing the costumes. FLYING GUILLOTINE is an update of the 1974 smash hit based on a controversial story on Qing Dynasty’s Emperor Yong Zheng who created an elite team of warriors to wield the notorious Flying Guillotine - a lethal weapon - to assassinate political dissidents and opponents. Against this ruthless political intrigue, a new romantic twist is injected into the story.
“These movies are two of the greatest martial-arts films ever made,” said William Pfeiffer, Chief Executive Officer of Celestial Pictures. “We are excited to extend the Shaw Brothers legacy to the 21st century by injecting modern cinematic elements to these timeless kung fu masterpieces.”
Celestial Pictures’ Philip Lee (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, HERO, FEARLESS), a production veteran will produce FIVE DEADLY VENOMS and FLYING GUILLOTINE

The remakes of three Shaw Brothers classics are moving ahead as planned. “Five Deadly Venoms,” directed by Kirk Wong Chi-keung, “Flying Guillotine” by Teddy Chan Tak-sum and “Vengeance” with Corey Yuen Kwai at the helm are still scheduled to start shooting this year with budgets between $10 million and $20 million. The scripts have been rewritten several times for each film, Pfeiffer said, adding that the pics will have a “quicker pace” with today’s special effects. “The idea is to not make them exactly as they were.” The bulk of the key cast has been identified if not hired. The three pics are expected to be finished in early 2008 and released within that year.

Hm...

HK$ gekostet.

Update beim Five Deadly Venoms Remake:
The original Five Deadly Venoms (Wu Du), made in the 1970s by master marital-art director Chang Cheh , is about a young protege being ordered by his dying master to eliminate the evil ones among five of his previous protege , known as the Five Deadly Venoms. Each of the Five Deadly Venoms has a lethal skill learned from a toxic animal. Story of the remake, by Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures, will be set in the present days in a fictional city. Director Kirk Wong (The Big Hit, Jackie Chan's Crime Story) says the cast will probably include Jay Chou (Curse of the Golden Flower, Initial D) as the protege and Edison Chen (The Grudge 2, Dog Bite Dog, Initial D), Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Mission: Impossible III, Naked Weapon), Huang Xiaoming (The Banquet), Wu Jing (Invisible Target, Sha Po Lang, Drunken Monkey) and Liu Chia-Hui (dozens of Shaw Bros. classics) as the Five Deadly Venoms. Andy Lau has dropped out of the cast. Shooting of the US15 million remake will start by September and locations will include Shanghai, Harbin (northeastern China) and the States.
